A Round Table on “Strategic Connectivity of the China Pakistan Economic Corridor under Belt and Road Initiative (BRI)” was held at the Center for International Strategic Studies on Wednesday, 5th December, 2018. Ms. Lavinia Moiceanu, who worked as an intern at CISS, presented her research as a part of her PhD Thesis on the economic, security and social aspects of CPEC, a flagship project of BRI. The presentation focused on Gawadar port and other projects related to highway, rail and pipeline infrastructure. It was highlighted in the discussion that the CPEC is a purely commercial project aims to bridge gap between land and sea to facilitate trade. The project will ensure smooth trade not just between China and Pakistan, but also benefit other regional states who intend to join it. The author concluded her presentation with suggestions for Pakistan’s policy makers to ensure the successful implementation of CPEC, following which a Q&A session was held. The Round Table was attended by members of the policy community, academia, and scholars.
