Tunisian Ambassador to Pakistan HE Adel Elarbi called on Ambassador Naqvi on 12th September 2018 at the Center for International Strategic Studies, Islamabad.
Ambassador Naqvi provided an overview of the CISS activities, including publications of books and research journals and organization of seminars, conferences, workshops and round tables.
Tunisian Ambassador provided a general account of Tunisia, including its historical and cultural significance, its attractive tourist destination—which draws around 7 million people per year—and its efforts for women emancipation.
Later the CISS team asked him questions about Tunisia’s education system, its democracy rising from the Arab Spring, refugee problems, and its strategy in dealing with China and the US at the same time. Ambassador described the education system of Tunisia as one of promoting rationality and general awareness, though the country faces the challenges of religious extremism and terrorism. He also said that being a non-NATO ally of the US, Tunisia felt no problem in pursuing economic relations with China. It has carried out a good balancing act between these two major powers of the world.
He also shared that Tunisia had worked progressively on its water system and agriculture and can help Pakistan in this regard. Pakistan, on the other hand, could assist Tunisia by sharing its successful counter-terrorism strategy.
ED CISS and the Tunisian Ambassador also discussed avenues of cooperation between CISS and think tanks in Tunisia.
